Since I assumed office as an advocate for students, their families and stakeholders in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, the journey so far has been remarkably rewarding and undeniably humbling. We have so much to do, and so far to go, to provide the public education that all LAUSD students deserve and require to realize their potential, transform our communities and contribute to our economy.

Despite the daunting challenges that LAUSD is confronting, we have also entered a new era of boundless opportunity to imagine and implement innovative education strategies to help our students graduate college-prepared and career-ready. Every day across the District, I meet amazing and enthusiastic students, parents, teachers and administrators who are answering the call to renew and strengthen public education in Los Angeles.
